  1. Congratulations, my dear sailors ; I’d love to be with you — a great experience for all. I read and enjoy every word. As also does my daughter Martha Main . She and husband Gord will be here in Toronto on Jan.28th for a few days before they take off on their cruise !! Happy sailing, happy New Year from Martha’s mother; Joan Goodall

    • Dear Joan,
How wonderful to hear from you – we’ve missed you. I’m delighted to hear that you’re still following the blog. I’m looking forward to hearing all about Martha and Gord’s cruise – they might give us some ideas for some future destinations. All the best for 2015 xx

    • Hi Marian,
Delighted to hear that you enjoyed the article. Ah the Iveragh Peninsula. In my late teens and through my twenties I went on holidays with my parents most years to Waterville. I have such deep and wonderful memories of that part of Kerry. It was also the location of our last family holiday, a couple of months before my dad died – so it’s bittersweet. Life’s short, so you have to make the most of it.
      All the best,

  3. Hi Martina. When I read your article in the Examiner , your story was the very same as friends of ours who lived in killarney Co kerry. They left about two years ago on a 38 ft yacht which Justin Built over a ten year period. They too have two children, Ellen and Cian. They started out going to the same places as you and have sailed across the Atlantic to the east coast of America! Best of luck with the future. You are both lucky to be able to do it and that you both WANTED to do it. The education of life is invaluable for the children. Mind yourselves. Regards Aida Doherty (previous traveller and mother of four!)

    • Hi Aida,
Thanks for taking the time to get in touch. It’s always reassuring and inspirational to hear of other families doing the same. It makes it all seem possible – normal even! Julian and I are indeed very lucky that we both wanted to do this. Neither one of us is someone who gets dragged into something unwillingly! And we’ll carry on with this life as long as all four of us are enjoying it.
      All the best,

  4. Great and interesting article. Makes me think ‘what if’.Maybe its not too late. I will follow your journies wit interest. Safe sailing.
