  2. CArina, your blog is inspirational and also reassuring. MY husband and I are in the process of selling up and moving to our boat in early April, along with our 5 year old son and 2 year old daughter. I will be home schooling, but quite relaxed about it…. WE will live on our boat in Plymouth for a month before heading for the med, spending lots of time in Greek islands and Peloponnese before deciding where to winter. Have you ever wintered in the canaries? Just wondered where the best marinas for families are…

    • What a great adventure you have ahead of you! Where abouts in Plymouth are you going to stay? At one of the marinas? We love that part of the world. We have never been to the Canaries (apart from package holidays with the grandparents!!), but we know of at least two families who have gone there to overwinter. I think it’s a pretty good place to overwinter, but gets a bit busy as people prepare for Atlantic crossings from November through to January. My friends in the Caribbean are forever posting photos of their kids surrounded by other boating kids…and it looks like fun! Here in Europe, we haven’t been to any marinas that particularly stand out. However, we did spend the winter of 2014/15 in Aguadulce on the southeast coast of Spain and the staff there were fantastic, very child friendly, and Jessica in the office made lots of special concessions for us (including giving us a good deal on the price) because we had small kids with us. If you want to discuss things in more detail, get in touch with me via the Contact page on this blog, and we can have a proper chat. All the best, Martina
